Any film that can collect the family together for a fun,wholesome, and inviting concept, and maintain the interest of all for it’s entire length, gets 5 stars in my book. “Casper” is one of those films. It may not go down as some large part of cinematic art, but it is one that all generations can like, will leave you with a smile, and something to talk about with kids afterwards.

Based on the venerable silly book stories, “Casper” is a very satisfactory but very lonely ghost. He lives in an obsolete mansion, that has seen better days. He is not alone in this grand house though, he lives with his three very contemptible(but silly) uncles,”Stretch”, “Stinky” and “Fatso”. Casper only wants someone to depart in,so he could have a friend, the uncles on the other hand, do their very best to awe away any visitors.

So when a greedy woman inherits the property, and believes there is a buried admire inside, she hires an array of ‘ghostbusters’ to rid the house of all spirits. None seem to be able to handle this bad trio, until one day a ghost psychiatrist and his lonely daughter(also looking for a friend),fade in and try to tame the threesome. From there it’s a fun and wild roam, and a touching record of friendship.

The film has a terrific cast that works well with the extraordinary animation and special effects. Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci are the father and daughter team that support these spirits. Cathy Moriarty(“Forget Paris”), and Eric Lazy as her bumbling assistant add their talents as they go for the worship.Lots of enormous names are cameoed throughout. Don Novello, and Dan Aykroyd reprise their roles of Father Guido Sarducci, and ghostbuster Dr. Raymond Stantz for brief appearances, impartial to name a couple.

The adventures of Mini Goddess has got to be the cutest portion of anime out. Basically, the episodes are approx. 5 minutes each allowing our cute miniature Goddesses to go on all kinds of adventures. The Urd files is the 3rd DVD in the series and contains episodes 25-36. A Better description of this fabulous anime indicate would probably be it’s like the Muppet Babies only 1000 times better. So do yourself a favor and prefer all three, currently available, DVD’s of this fantastically cute Anime series. You won’t regret it:) You can also be like me and bolt help & forth, while waiting patiently for the release of The Adventures of Mini Goddess-The Skuld Files:)

Those who’ve seen the first two mini goddess DVDs will devour this, however you’ll witness a few changes. During the opening narration that begins each episode, the narration is the same, but what goes on is different. Through out this 20 second scene we watch them posing in front of a camera in different outfits, including bathing suits (and Urd in lingerie) .

The ruin credit sequence is also different. The first four episodes have their bear novel credit scens, and from episode five and on we near to a unusual ruin video with a modern song, where we scrutinize the goddess doing different activities like playing cards and board games with pieces that see impartial like them.

And, finally, the episodes themselves are different. Piece four is a mood fragment completely free of dialoge and humor, with somber music, where Urd spends a rainy traveling to different parts of Tokyo, and then attend home where she finds her younger sisters waiting with Gan. Those who are impatiant for laughs will want to speedily forward through this one.

The biggest change is the introduction of Marla, a sorcoress with a first class licence and no restrictions. Sometimes backed up by a gang of rat thugs, she acts as the villan here, her goal to develop the three goddess’ lives a living hell. She does often become the sorce of comedy relief herself, though, and I believe she makes the series considerable more titillating. This I reccomend.

This movie is probably the worst storyline I have ever seen. Ewan MacGregor follows Ashley Judd around for months, spying on her & supposedly keeping her good from afflict. He looks into her background – finds out she was abandoned as a child by her father, feels empathy for her – because his wife took off with his daughter. A daughter he imagines seeing throughout the entire movie. There is no true status, other thank that and the ending is pathetic. “I wish you admire”, indeed! Do not end your money or time on this movie.

This movie is so terrible that I’m certain that someone will like it. A twelve-year-old’s belief of an “art” film. Lots of cute effects and disconnected scenes, as one crazy stalks another for far too long. For me it honest went from poor to grisly to utterly abominable, finishing with an ending that plumbed the depths of pointlessness….

A Woman Under the Influence features an audio commentary by cameraman Mike Ferris and sound recordist/composer Bo Harwood. This movie marked the first time they worked together and they would go on to collaborate with Cassavetes on The Killing of a Chinese Bookie and Opening Night. This version of Louisa May Alcott’s classic book, “Minute Women,” starring June Allyson, Janet Leigh, Liz Taylor and Margaret O’Brien, was the first remake of the film (which originally starred Kathryn Hepburn) and the version that is truest to the book.

The Wynona Ryder film, the third and latest version, was seriously flawed, especially by the inclusion of “politically just” and contemporary social views like the scene in which Ryder, playing Jo, expresses feminist sympathies to young men in a bar. I’ve read the book: there’s nothing like that in it. In fact, the book is practically a morality play and in the earlier film versions the girls’ struggle to improve their characters is portrayed, if somewhat lightly. These struggles, which are indispensable to the true portrayal of each character and the time in which they lived, was totally deleted from the most current version.

Both the Hepburn version and the Allyson version expend quite a bit of Alcott’s new text in the screenplay and characters in both films follow the book almost to the proverbial “T.” The Ryder film, on the other hand, is a blatant and successful attempt to “modernize” Louisa Alcott, resulting in a totally nefarious production.

As someone named after Beth from Slight Women and having sisters and my family roots on our Mothers side being in Maine, I was a lover of this film from the first time I ever saw it. Thankfully we now have it on DVD and can glance it any time we wish. It is very factual to the book authored by a common author of mine, Louisa May Alcott.

As a woman I like the book and the movie because of the strength of the March women in an era when most women were expected to live a determined role. I also like how each of the daughters Jo, Beth, Amy and Meg along with the mother who is a widow are all tantalizing females and not at all wimpy or whiny. Remembering at all times that the memoir was/is plot in Civil War times.

The movie never lags but blends smoothly from one scene to the next. The cinematography has held up well over the decades and the movie doesn’t explain its age visually. Each of the actors went on to be major successes with some being major stars when the movie was made. Its a movie that is timeless and is a common especially during the winter months in out home.

“Todo Sobre Mi Madre,” or “All About My Mother,” revolves around the life of an organ transplant coordinator, Manuela, who was briefly shown in one of Almodovar’s most unusual movie “The Flower of My Secret”. This is a film about man in extremis. Retreating, defeated batallions of Japanese soldiers in WWII on the island of Leyte in the Phillipines glean themselves sinking ineluctably toward barbarism. The wounded, the desperate, the starving–all are paraded before us in Ichikawa’s pitiless, sometimes bitterly ironic pageant of man’s descent toward his basest impulses. The fires of the wearisome of the title refer to distant smoke from fires on the horizon that the soldiers contemplate from time to time. The fires are symbols of hope of release from the carnage and despair surrounding the soldiers. The final irony is how unfounded too this hope turns out to be. All are caught in the web of deceit, of trickery, of brutality that man in his used station so easily reverts to. Honest about every sacred cow–brotherhood, respect, honor–is refuted. Man is both a figurative and literal cannibal, preying on his fellow soldiers, his friends. The film is harshly realistic yet surreal and nightmarish–barren landscapes of corpses, dung-eating madmen, men crawling like beasts over a trench. Ichikawa’s images have a barbaric splendor and dreamlike aura, reinforced by the dissonant, percussive soundtrack with its echoes of Bartok. Not a film for those unwilling to face the extent of man’s capacity for monstrosity head on; for others, it’s a harrowing, deeply unsettling experience.

Over 25 years ago, I was watching a Public TV set on a Saturday afternnon in Milwaukke. They were showing a movie called “Fires on the Lifeless” and I watched it more out of curiosity than intent. Although the represent on my conceal was fuzzy, I gradually became mesmerized as I understood what the movie was all about. I worship this film. Barbara and Adam Maitland, a young couple madly in fancy (played by Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin) witness that they are not only expressionless but trapped in their home as ghosts waiting for the bureaucracy of the afterlife to station them free. When a Unusual York couple (Catherine O’Hara and Jeffrey Jones) and their teenage daughter Lydia (wonderfully macabre Winona Ryder) disappear into their beloved house, the Maitlands want nothing more than to buy them. The scrape is, the Maitlands are too nice to truly horror anyone. They meet a rogue ghost, the ribald, disgusting Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) who promises to drive the family away, with a few strings attached. Lydia, whose goals aren’t that far from the Maitlands and who has a morbid, poignantly shadowy outlook, discovers the ghosts and tries to succor them. But Beetlejuice has his hold agenda.

The casting for this movie is perfect, with only Alec Baldwin’s performance less than memorable. Michael Keaton is suitably slimy and decadent, while Geena Davis plays the earnest innocence of her character equally well. The most startling performance is a young Winona Ryder, who shows vast range in her role as the morbid but good-hearted Lydia.

One of the most hilarious, unlit scenes ever filmed is contained in this movie, when the Fresh York couple throws a pretentious dinner party and the Maitlands assume over. Director Tim Burton uses glance gags, situational comedy, and one-liners that all absorb his trademark quirkiness to manufacture this film inventive and, even years after its release, novel. What’s most fantastic in this film essentially about the weirdness of being boring is the emotional drive of it. The Maitlands’ yearning to reclaim their home even in death and Lydia’s wounded, lonely adolescence lend humanity to an otherwise wild comedy.

My one-star refers to this so-called “20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition” of this hilarious and eye-popping delight from director Tim Burton.

Since the inception of the DVD format, I have been waiting for a gracious DVD of Beetlejuice with commentary and special features.

I am sorry to say that this pathetic disc is NOT what I have been waiting for.

Though they supposedly have spruced up the describe, the ONLY special features are three Beetlejuice cartoons and I consider some music track or something.

NO commentary, NO behind-the-scenes, NO nothing.

So — NO sale.

When I purchased this film, I wasn’t paying obedient attention, thinking that I was buying yet another version of Tolstoy’s noted work; however, it is, in fact, the 1968 Bondarchuk story which I already owned in widescreen (letterbox) and which has now been packaged and edited by another distributor. Yet, in the demolish, it’s quite a different film!

First of all, this version has been “panned and scanned” to better facilitate a regular cloak television — so, this product is what we generally refer to as “full-screen”. Second, there are a few editing differences including some scenes that were not in the widescreen (letterbox) version and misssing a few scenes that were. This does not radically change the film but it was certainly inviting to glimpse.

Finally, the voiceovers and subtitles are COMPLETELY different, being pleasant to the novel widescreen (letterbox) version. Many more conversation parts are picked up in this version and the translation is far noble. In some cases, the two translations are quite different, this one aligning more with the highly recommended Maude translation of the novel book.

In the ruin, I’m ecstatic to acquire both versions, as each has its advantages and disadvantages. In characterize quality, this one cannot compare to the widescreen (letterbox) version as the clarity was somewhat compromised by the blow-up of the negatives during the “pan and scan” process. Detached, it’s quite watchable.

As far as the memoir goes, this is one of the finest war films ever produced. The Hollywood version of War and Peace starring Henry Fonda is a pathetic joke compared to this Russian masterpiece. I have two final comments: 1. If you maintain a regular TV then this is the version that you want. If you have a widescreen TV and already enjoy the widescreen (letterbox) version, I highly recommend that you grab this one too!

I am on the last (12th) book, “Magnificent Appearing” after having devoured the Left Slack hasten series. I had seen the first movie, “Left Slack” years before and enjoyed it, although it did leave you hanging. I purchased the books and read them and at the same time purchased the 3 DVD’s. I honest finished watching all 3 movies. I was disappointed. The script somewhat followed the books, but then by World at War, it went off into its beget world. The characters I grew to cherish in the books were almost one-dimensional in the movie. If you gawk the special features you will recognize interviews with various celebrities about the movie. I wish they had made more of the anecdote into the movie. Janaya (“Chloe”) mentioned how long everything took, but I was surprised, and had to reverse it to hear it again, to learn that it was only 6 weeks of filming. After seeing the 95 petite features I can maintain it. This had so powerful potential, but dropped the ball. Although I must say, the actors were terrific! Everyone matched the descriptions and personalities in the books. Gordon Currie was amazing as the Antichrist! I caution you to read the books first, then peek the movies. If not, you will not savor the deeper meaning to them. You don’t even need to be religious really, unprejudiced be pleased the distinguished insights. Thank you Kirk Cameron for helping to bring the fable to life, except it should have been more alive.

It is well-behaved to find not only for the Christians you know but with the draw the DVDs are made they are vast for non-Christians as well. Entertaining, suspenseful and with a obedient factual, The Doughty Puny Toaster works on many different levels for children. It’s well made and written. Firstly, I don’t know why loads of people assume this film is cheesy. I know Alice isn’t for everyone, but when you observe at the other films made based on Children’s classics by Disney (eg- Jungle Book, Hunchback of Notre Dame), you’ll look it’s more faithful than those films to the unusual. However if you have read the books and haven’t seen this film, some characters are missing (eg- Duchess, Mock Turtle, Knave of Hearts, White Knight) . This may unbiased deem that Disney has ruined this classic forever. They haven’t. It’s the best adaption I’ve ever seen.

Although I actually have the PAL version, I roar the movie is unbiased the same over in North America. The best bits are the Walrus and the Carpenter, the garden of singing flowers and flamingo croquet. And the Exasperated Tea Party is composed the funniest section of a Disney classic.
